Shine Bright Like a Diamond : Dubai Glitz even from Outer Space

December 7, 2022, The International Space Station recently flew over Dubai, captured the spectacular and stunning view of the city , hundred miles from above.

“We just flew over Dubai. Spectacular night view of the city from the ISS! Can you see the Palm Island?” – Astronaut Koichi Wakata stated on his Tweet Account earlier.

Koichi Wakata, an astronaut from Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, on the International Space Station, shared the stunning aerial image.

Sparkling city lights show clear demarcations between different areas of the emirate, and the majestic Palm stands out amidst the dark sea.

The 59-year-old (who is a veteran of four NASA Space Shuttle missions) is on his fifth space mission, a new record for a Japanese astronaut. He often shares images from space, giving the rest of us ‘earthly beings’ a peek into his out-of-this-world window view.

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Astronaut Koichi Wakata, said it’s his “honour” to serve as a member of the UAE Space Agency advisory committee. (During his interview last October 2022)

The UAE is often captured from space by astronauts due to its unique coastline and landmarks. 
The two images show the man-made Palm-shaped islands and World Islands off Dubai, and the Abu Dhabi city.
